Project Postcard - Month 10 - Be there or Be Square

Do you dare to be Square?
Many years ago I was helping a friend who had been bequeathed a quilting fabric stash from a lady called Gillian, in this stash were loads of 2
" squares and my friend was going to throw them away but I said that Gillian had obviously cut them for a project so I asked if I could have them.
Well I was novice to patchwork back then and I knew if I tried to join all the squares together the corners wouldn’t meet and that would drive me crazy. So after thinking about it I thought if I cut some of the square down in length  in a variety of sizes, joined them into rows and then joined the rows the corners would intentionally not meet. This fabric gave me a good platform for some needle turn applique, and ‘Gillians Cushion’ was born and takes pride of place on the chair Dave made.

If back then I had known about Vlieseline Quilters Grid it wouldn’t have been a problem, I have wanted to try this for ages, and I have not been disappointed, it’s great and I have had ‘sew’ much fun.

In these projects I have only used scraps and I have even pushed myself to be less precise at what goes where …. ( a big challenge for me!).

Happy Sewing
